Event photography | Business Awards
The days grow colder, the nights draw in …. it can only mean that it’s the start of Business Awards season.
This year is the seventh year of the Altrincham and Sale Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, and I’ve been (flattered to have been) asked to photograph each one of them. This included 2014, when I won the award for small business of the year and handed the camera to someone else to take the one frame of me receiving the trophy (I’m still working on how to press the shutter button and run around in front of the camera and pose all within 1/125th of a second), before taking the camera back and getting on with the job.
The most recent event was a fortnight ago, held as always at the Cresta Court hotel, a real Altrincham institution. The evening’s become a real coming together of the businesses that make Altrincham and Sale tick, a true celebration of the business community in this area.
As in previous years, my coverage was a mixture of documentary photos of the entire evening combined with the formal shots of winners and runners-up receiving their prizes onstage. Below I’ve put a tiny selection of what I shot on the evening. As an aside, as the winners shots are newsworthy, they were distributed the next morning, so as to catch deadlines. I always strive to send out awards photos as soon as possible after the event – and always within 24 hours – in order to catch the publicity that’s possible. As winners, runners up and attendees will have plastered phone pics all over social media, it’s important that the official photos go out as quickly and efficiently as possible afterwards.
I’ve other awards nights to blog about, and more in the diary, but there are still spaces available if you’d like to have a record of your own big event. As well as great PR for all the entrants, the organisers sponsors and attendees, it’s great to have a record of an event both as a record itself and for use in future marketing (such as to promote next year’s event).
