It’s often the case that we can’t see what’s right in front of our noses isn’t it?  Because we’re so familiar with a thing, we see or experience it daily, we simply lose sight of it.  That’s often the case with companies that I work with – because they’re so used to providing an excellent service, they don’t consider it special.  Yet, that’s the very thing that makes them so great at what they do – and it’s that aspect that should be celebrated and shouted from the rooftops.

A case in point is a commission I carried out a few weeks ago for Expedition Mini Coaches in Macclesfield.  I’d been referred to them by Mark who runs Benchmark Graphics, a website development company.  He was building a new website for the company and had recommended they contact me to create some new photos to populate the site he was designing.  Owner Rick rang up and initially asked me if I could take some portraits of the staff; but once I asked him about what the company does, it became apparent that photos of what the drivers did was far more compelling in getting across what the company was about.  They drive wheelchair users to appointments, and this seemed a far better message to get across than headshots of the drivers.  Rick agreed, Mark was behind the idea 100%, and a couple of dates were selected as possible shoot dates.

So, I spent a morning with two of the guys, accompanying them as they picked up customers, drove them to appointments, and went back to take them home again.  A couple of hours in their company showed me how caring they were, how much they enjoyed helping people, and  – basically – what a lovely bunch of people they were.  The photo shoot was rearranged a couple of times because of poor weather (remember Storm Ciara anyone?), but on the final rescheduled date it was still raining throughout.  In fact, dodging the showers turned out to be a bonus, because it demonstrated still further the level of care and attention the company takes (check out the photo with the brolly to see what I mean).

Here are a few examples of what I shot, showing the degree of care and consideration that represents the company’s values.  Unposed documentary photography that accurately reflects exactly what the company is about.
